Carbon Cleaning with Walnut Blaster

Solving a Random Misfire with Walnut Blasting

This project came to us after the owner had already replaced the spark plugs and ignition coils but was still dealing with a frustrating, random misfire. After some investigation, we found the likely culprit—heavy carbon build-up inside the engine. This is something we see regularly, particularly with vehicles in the VAG TFSI engine family.

To resolve the issue, we used our Walnut Blaster to clean the intake valves and remove the stubborn carbon deposits. On inspection, we also noticed that the catalytic converter was becoming blocked by carbon build-up. In cases like this, we can either clean the converter or, where emissions regulations allow, carry out a remap and delete.

The Results

By removing the carbon deposits, the car is now running smoother and more efficiently. The benefits of this process include:

  • Improved combustion and reduced fuel consumption
  • Restored performance with smoother throttle response
  • Lower emissions for a cleaner drive
  • Extended engine life through reduced strain and wear.

This case is a great example of how persistent misfires aren’t always caused by the obvious components, and how carbon cleaning can bring a tired engine back to life.
